About

My name is Sara Allen. I am a junior at Coker College, studying communications. My interest in communications comes from sports. I have played golf since I was 13 and now play for Coker. I have seen the inequality in my sport on junior, high school, collegiate, and professional levels not only in the way we are treated at tournaments, golf stores, and courses, but the way our sport is covered. This experience has sparked my interest in sports media and how female athletics are covered on television, in print, and online.

This is a blog where I discuss the research I am doing about gender inequality in sports broadcasting and media coverage. I will post interesting information I find while reading journals, books, and watching documentaries. I will also include any instances of inequality that I encounter in collegiate golf as well as from other sports from female athletes around campus. This blog will lead into my senior seminar project next year and the papers I plan to submit to communication conferences.
